2017 Golden Globe Award Winners

The 2017 Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Jimmy Fallon on January 8, saw the Hollywood Foreign Press Association presenting awards to what they deemed the best and brightest films, TV shows, music and acting talent of the past year. Meryl Streep was also honored with the year’s Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award for her decades of film work, introduced in a touching speech by Doubt costar and Golden Globe winner Viola Davis. Streep delivered a powerful speech, herself.

This year saw an array of favorites nominated, from unexpected first-timers (like Mandy Moore on the runaway smash hit This Is Us) to small screen comebacks (like Winona Ryder in Stranger Things). Ultimately, the HFPA seemed to really, really like recently released musical La La Land, which won seven awards including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director and acting wins for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

Donald Glover’s FX dramedy Atlanta won Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy, and earned Glover a Best Performance win as well. Glover thanked rap trio Migos in his first speech (who guest starred on the series as bizarre drug dealers in the woods), “not for being on the show, but for making “Bad and Boujee.” Migos thanked Glover on Twitter soon afterward.

Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight — which looked to be on the verge of a shutout by the evening’s near-end — won Best Motion Picture, Drama in the broadcast’s final moments.
