Why, oh why did I open this story before I turned on the microphone and tried to talk yesterday morning?  This beautiful tribute to a family pet will have you reaching for a box of Kleenex.

I'm such a pet person.  In fact before I wanted to be on the radio and talk for a living, I wanted to be a veterinarian.  Plans changed when I job shadowed a vet and couldn't take watching the poor confused animals run into things as they came out of anesthesia after surgery.  I'm more content talking on the radio and posting pictures of my goofy pet, Dakota instead.

I have so many nicknames for that little guy because he's cute and knows he can get away with the destruction he causes in my apartment.  His reign of terror aside, Kota is my best friend.  He's the one thing I know is going to be there to cuddle with me when I'm sad or make me laugh by doing some silly cat thing.  I'd be a mess if he was diagnosed with something terminal and had to be put down.

That's probably why I was a mess when I read this story from Buzzfeed yesterday.  It's a photo essay written from the point of view of a family's dog who knew he was being put down that day because of a disease that had already claimed one of his legs.  I apologize in advance for making you cry all your eye make-up off at work but the story is too touching and beautifully done to not share.
