What a cool accomplishment for a student at St. Mary's Catholic School in Boise!

A few weeks ago, I told you about the "An Idaho Mountain Gem" contest.  The grand prize of the contest was a chance for an "Idaho kid" in grades 1-6 to light the Christmas tree on the U.S. Capitol lawn in Washington D.C. this December.  Keeping with tradition, the big wigs in D.C. wanted a student from the tree's home state to help flip the switch.  This year's tree comes from the Payette National Forest.

According to a post on the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree's official Facebook page (yes, the tree has it's own Facebook page) the votes are in and the winner is a fifth grader at St. Mary's Catholic School in Boise!

Our friends from KTVB were there to capture Isabella Gerard's reaction when she found out her poem about hiking in McCall was chosen as the grand prize winner.  I challenge you to make it through this video without crying.  I bawled when I saw how excited Isabella was!
