The Bronco Sophomore is the only college athlete competing for a spot on Team USA in the 5,000 meter run.

Allie Ostrander is traveling to Eugune this week to and secure her spot to represent Team USA on the track in Rio.  The first section of the competition is Thursday, July 7th at 5:20 PM.  If she makes the finals, she'll make her final run Sunday, July 10th at 5:28 PM.

Ostrander made a splash in the Boise State Cross Country team as a freshman, finishing 2nd at the NCAA women's cross country finals.  She had a chance to represent BSU at the NCAA indoor track championships in March in two events, including the 5,000 but did not run due to injury. The injury also caused her to miss the outdoor track season.

She'll face some serious competition from Molly Huddle and Emily Infeld, who duked it out for 3rd place at the World Championships last year. Infeld beat Huddle at the line when Huddle prematurely celebrated a bronze medal. Peep the finish the video below.

I've got a soft spot for Infeld because she ran against me in high school.  She's also no stranger to the Treasure Valley.  Infeld won the 3,000 meter run at the DI NCAA Indoor Championships when they were held in Nampa in 2012.
