The water toxicity in Flint, Michigan could be a thing of the past because of a Boise teen named Alex Howard.

The Timberline High student was given the challenge of inventing something that could have a positive environmental affect on his region. The idea Alex had would not only help us all but address and likely correct the water contamination crisis in Flint, Michigan.

Basically what's happening is Alex is saving the world.

Using items you'd find on a casual walk while on vacation, Alex pieced together a filter that removes lead from water. It's sand, seashells and sugar.

His brain is much more advanced than mine.

Alex was able to test the filter in a lab at Boise State and the results were sent to Google. Now Alex Howard is one of five winners in the world who is being recognized by Google for innovation in the world of science and initiative to help solve real-world problems.

After testing the filter out at a Boise State University lab, the results were sent to Google.

This adventure of his is not over.
