Costco is one of my favorite places to go, despite my distaste for the crowds on most days.  Growing up, my grandpa and I would go to Costco on Saturday mornings and sample everything imaginable while he'd grocery shop-- it was tradition!  We would always end the sampling experience with a hot dog or a slice of pizza, as well.

If you're a Costco member, you understand how awesome the place can be and how much money it can save you on both groceries and every day household items.  Unfortunately, for the first time in six years, Costco is raising the price that it costs to be a member.

According to KTVB, this raise will affect nearly 35 million current members. Here is how the changes can effect you:

  • Primary Costco membership holders for both individuals and businesses are going up $5 making the cost for the annual membership $60.00.
  • Members of the Executive tier earn 2 percent cashback on their purchases of the year. Members in that bracket will be seeing a $10 raise in cost, making the membership total $120.  Though Costco did place a $750 cap in years past as the most that one could receive in cash back, that did raise and $1,000 is the new cap. This increases the amount you can get in cash back by $250.

Though the membership prices are going up, for most, the saving you're able to get back from shopping at Costco (if you shop there enough) will add up and surpass any amount extra you are paying for membership.
