It's one of those calls that sound too good to be true. Naturally, it must be a scam, right? Well, in this particular instance, no. While you may trained not to answer calls from numbers you don't recognize, this call is totally legit AND it could score you $1,200!

Recently, Dish Network lost a class-action lawsuit filed by more than 18,000 people who sued the company over violations of the National Do Not Call Registry law.

According to pennyhoarder.com, representatives from Dish Network knowingly called people on "Do not Call List" between May 11, 2010 and August 1, 2011.

As a result, a class action suit was filed and the court ruled against Dish and ordered them to pay out over $61 million in the settlement.

However, according to the attorney representing consumers in the lawsuit, almost two-thirds of the people haven’t responded to claim their money. All because the people who are being contacted by phone, letter or postcard, think it’s a scam.

Welcome to the world as we know it in 2018 where everyone is trying to take advantage of you. I don't have any money coming from this suit, but I'm one of the people who would think this is a total scam. I never answer calls from numbers I don't recognize and I usually throw away any mail pieces that I don't' recognize thinking they are either spam or a scam.

The good news is, that if you’re among the 70% of people who didn’t answer the phone or ignored the mail piece, there is still time to submit your claim and get your money.

If you can dig up your claim ID and PIN code that was included in the mail or email notice, you can use that information to log in and file your claim. If you think you might be entitled to a claim, but don’t have the claim ID or PIN code sent out, then you can visit the claims website to enter your information and see if you’re eligible. You can also use the phone number search tool to see if you’re included.

But don’t wait, because claims are due by May 1st.

It could take some time before members of the class see any cash. Attorneys for Dish Network have until May 6 to appeal. That could kick off another yearlong court battle.
