Do Students Really Return to College After a Gap Year?

Malia Obama and I have one thing in common: We both took a gap year. The thing: I forgot to go back after my gap year was over. Do people actually return?

On National College Decision Day, President and Mrs. Obama announced that their daughter, Malia would be attending Harvard University but not immediately after she graduates high school.

Starting in 2017, a year after high school graduation, Malia Obama will start at Harvard making her part of the graduating class of 2021.

I haven't ever heard of anyone returning to college after a gap year. I'm willing to put serious money on the fact that Malia will. I mean, she's the president's daughter. She may not have a choice.

In real life, though, does anyone go back?
