There's a giant french fry party today and you're invited! J.R. Simplot Co. is celebrating National French Fry Day by having 5,000 pounds of fries on hand to cook up for you at JUMP. It's also a thank you for enduring the construction project that took two years to complete.

Just show up. That's all you have to do. There are 60 Simplot employees who have volunteered to make this event happen. Today's weather will be hot. The forecast says 101 degrees. Shade will be provided under several tents and you may grab a free bottle of water as you chow down on fries that are the true OG.

Will fry sauce be available? Well, let me just ask you these question as a response: Is this Idaho? Can fries be eaten any other way? Answer: Yes. There isn't any concern of a fry shortage because the Simplot crew is waiting to serve 5,000 pounds. That's close to the amount served at a world record setting event. Unless the entire Treasure Valley is hungry and brings their families from different states, we'll be just fine.

If things work out okay (as in, if we show up), Free Fry Day could be an annual tradition. I bet that if you asked anyone who doesn't live in Idaho, they would have assumed that we did something like this every day.

It's time, my friends. It's so time.

Ditch the diet and don't eat an afternoon snack, just plan to head to Celebration Circle at JUMP. It's the open area on the side of 9th street. Park in the parking garage for free (your first hour) and grab some fries. The French Fry Party starts at 4:00 p.m. and goes until 7:00 p.m.
