Childhood ruined.  Mind blown. News spread like a wildfire when Hello Kitty creator Sanrio reached out to a woman putting together a Hello Kitty retrospective for the Japanese American National museum.  They loved the script for her presentation but asked her to make one HUGE correction to her script.  Christine R. Yano, the exhibit's organizer explains:

"That's one correction Sanrio made for my script for the show. Hello Kitty is not a cat. She's a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat.” The company further reasoned that the character has never been depicted on all fours and even has a pet cat of her own named Charmmy Kitty."

Well, there you have it.  Color me shocked.
