After this week's hailstorm in Boise, your ride may look a little worse for wear.

Here's how to prevent that.

Basically it all boils down to this: Cover your vehicle. Anything that can protect your paint and/or lessen the impact of hail hitting your car is ideal:

  • Get a carport
  • Cover your car with a cover or blankets
  • Know where covered parking is available
  • Park near a building to use it as a hail shield
  • In a pinch? Put your car mats on your car's hood and roof

You'll want to focus on protecting the hood and roof of your car. Most auto glass is now tempered, meaning it would take some really nasty hail to damage the glass. If you're thinking "Meh, it doesn't happen here a lot. I should be alright", know this: To repair the damage hail can inflict on your car can cost upwards of $5,000. It's worth considering.
