The whole state might be proud to say they're from the 208, but that's all about to change!

This takes me back to my embarrassing first week at 103.5 KISS FM.  Keke had me call some winners and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong with our office phones.  I grew up somewhere that's had to dial a 10-digit phone number since I was a kid.  I had NO idea that you didn't have to dial the area code because the entire state was 208.

Six year's later, the joke isn't on me anymore!  The 208 area code is expected to run out of available numbers by mid-2018, so the state is getting a second area code. 986.

Since Idaho's been assigned 208 since the 40s, the Public Utilities Commission is hosting to workshops to explain why this is necessary and when you should become proficient in 10-digit dialing. (Hot Tip: It's going to be mandatory in by next August)

Want to attend the workshop for some help with your phone? The Boise workshop is on October 4th at 7 p.m. in the Idaho Public Utilities Commission hearing room at 472 W. Washington St.
