As parents, we have to give teachers in our community a certain amount of trust. After all, we rely on them to educate our children while we aren't around. The thought of a teacher breaking that trust is chilling. It's the feeling I felt when I read about a Meridian teacher who was sentenced to only 120 days in jail for having sexual relations with a student.

A southwest Idaho high school teacher who had sex with a student has been sentenced to 120 days in jail and must register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.
The Idaho Press reports 26-year-old Rebecca Mason-Cales had initially pleaded not guilty to six counts of battery against a minor child aged 16 or 17, but in August she entered a revised guilty plea of guilty to one count.

This is just bizarre. You would think that a teacher having "relations" with a 16-year-old student would carry a longer penalty. The report goes on to say the encounter was "consensual" and the teacher had "no malicious intentions" WOW. Sad to say, but I have the feeling if this was a male teacher the outcome would have been diffrent.
