As the grocer gears up to open their new "Market Street" concept, a neighborhood near Boise State will lose the grocery store closest to them.

When Albertsons announced that one of their very first locations was getting an upgrade, many wondered exactly what that meant for the store located at Broadway and Beacon near campus. As the first drawings of the project were released, it was clear that it wasn't really an upgrade for the store at all, but the end of an era.  Rather than renovate the early location, the hometown grocer broke ground on a nearby brand new, two story location that will open as their first "Market Street Idaho" branded store.

The final day for the old Broadway Albertsons Market is Saturday, April 7.  The new Market Street Idaho Albertsons is set to open a few months later on Saturday, June 23.  The new location promises to be a culinary experience offering shoppers unique experiences like cooking demonstrations, food events, more prepared meal options and catering services.  In a press release about the store, the Intermountain division president said some of those experiences may be something like exclusive wine, fruit and cheese pairings or a dedicated chocolatier teaming up with scratch bakers to create a one-of-a-kind art deco cake.

If the remodel of the former McCall Paul's Market into an impressive two story Albertsons store is any indication of what Market Street Idaho will be like, then the Treasure Valley's about to see the Taj Mahal of grocery stores.  While it's something to be excited about, it leaves those who used that location as their primary grocer without a neighborhood store for a few months.

Albertsons recognizes the inconvenience and has put out 15 weeks of coupons for shoppers to use at nearby locations including the Albertsons stores at Parkcenter & Apple, 16th & State, Vista & Overland and Overland & Orchard.
