It just got harder to shop at The Village at Meridian.

According to KTVB, the Idaho Transportation Department made the decision to close the left turn lane from Eagle onto Village Drive after the number of accidents at the intersection has doubled over the past three years. Most of them have been angle-turning or head on crashes.  Anyone who's used that entrance into The Village can agree that visibility at the intersection isn't great and having to cross three lanes of traffic to reach Village Drive can be nerve racking.

One option to regain access to Village Drive from the left turning lane? Installing a new traffic signal. That was the original plan for the entrance and The Village has been asking ITD to help them make it happen. It's property developer, Centercal, would pick up the tab for the signal that could cost up to $300,000. The Village plans on building closer to Eagle Road so they hope to work out a deal with ITD, The City of Meridian and Meridian Police Department in the near future.

Their target date is Spring 2017.  The Village does expect closing that turning lane to impact business.
