We're already paying more for the gas in our cars.

Now we'll be paying more for the gas in our homes as well.

Are you a customer of Intermountain Gas Company? Then you may want to pay extra attention to your next bill. As of yesterday, IGC customers will be paying 1.58% more for gas service moving forward. Intermountain originally wanted a whopping 4% rate hike, but the Idaho Public Utilities Commission brought the increase down to under 2%.

Why the increase? Back in 1985, Intermountain Gas Company was servicing around 85,400 homes (not including businesses.) The company now services 334,650 homes in southern Idaho, which means they have to invest more into pipelines, maintenance, and customer service.

Are you all up in arms about the sudden rate increase? We can put the pitchforks down, for now. This is Intermountain Gas Company's first rate increase in 31 years.
