St. Patty's Day was bittersweet because we shut Main Street Bistro down for good that night.  Some of my best, albeit blurry, memories of Downtown Boise came from that bar so I was sad to see it go...but I'm excited for it's new beginnings!

I drove past the old Bistro location last week and the windows still had boards over them,  but I could see some cool chandeliers going up in there.  Three days later there was a new sign for "Amsterdam" hanging out front.  Color me intrigued!

After reading Michael Deeds's interview with our friend Ted Challenger in the Scene today, this is what I can tell you:

It's No Longer The Bro-Stro

Good, because as much as I loved Bistro, I was starting to feel like the old person in the room and I'm only 27! The new lounge keeps Bistro's old main bar, but everything else is changing.  There's going to be more artwork and a feel of lounges/cofeehouses actuall in Amsterdam.  The music?  A far cry from the mix of China hits and Roddy's favorites that started becoming a standard at Bistro.  They're DJs will focus on music from the 90s and early 2000s.  I'd like to get my Nsync, BSB, Britney and Spice Girls requests in now please!

It's Got Dual Identities

Amsterdam opens at 8 AM.  Is it prescribing to the school of thought that it's 5 o'clock somewhere?  Nope.  During the day it's going to be a coffee shop selling Fonte java from Seattle.  The catch?  It's still going to be a 21 and over shop.  Don't plan on seeing HS seniors cramming for their finals here.  It'll be a pretty open space for conversations and informal meetings, not being crammed into a tiny little Starbucks. PLUS they'll have some boozed up coffee drinks and small selection of breakfast foods.

Get Your Game On

Not necessarily your twerk.  Yes, there will be a small dance floor in the new lounge, but it's not going to be the same dance floor that you remember being in the middle of the room or a crowd that you'd also find at Ted's other two clubs.  But this bar's got something more for the geek in all of us...an arcade with classic games!  Oh, and the pool tables stay too.

So When's It Open?

Doors open to the public next Thursday during the Downtown Boise Association's First Thursday at 4:30 PM.  Regular hours are 8 AM - 2 AM!
