Watch out, Boise State. Watch out, Nevada. Wyoming--good luck. The rumor mill has been proven true-- The Mountain West Conference is in talks with Gonzaga University.

No, the Zags won't be taking home any wins on the blue turf at Albertson's Stadium but Taco Bell Arena? Entirely possible.

Having grown up in Boise, it's been fun watching Boise State basketball chalk up wins this season that could potentially get them an on-the-bubble bid into March Madness. A graduate of Gonzaga University myself-- I can't express enough how huge of a presence Gonzaga basketball could be to the MWC.  This program has an unbelievable fan base that consistently travels and sells out arenas on the road. Not to mention how much just the schools name could help the respect for the MWC as a whole.

It's no secret--despite being among the top ranked teams in the country year after year, Gonzaga's conference schedule is far from difficult. Typically going up against teams with losing records (despite BYU and Saint Mary's), it can be difficult for Gonzaga to get a feel for a tough game prior to March Madness each spring.

In a conference like the Mountain West, the Zags will have a far more difficult conference schedule through the winter and of course, their dominance will help all of the other conference teams grow.

Gonzaga joining the MWC could happen as soon as next season, however talks are still in the early stages. The Mountain West Conference publicly said that they have been talking to Gonzaga since August of 2017.
