It’s the craziest thing when you become a dad because everyone tells you life will change. I remember getting so frustrated with that rationality that for some reason I don’t know life until I have kids. WHATEVER! Except, you were ALL right.

I woke up this morning to my son’s smiling face, the smell of a Father’s Day breakfast and a few books that I will cherish. Plus, let me show this shirt that Paige and my son made for me. The entire feeling is odd. I’m a dad. Like, I’m a dad! It doesn’t matter whether it’s been 17 months or 17 days. We’ve gone through a lot with this kids health and I just feel very lucky. I’ve met the most amazing wife to be, mother and together we’re raising a blessing.

I don’t think I can say anything that will ever resonate with people about Father’s day or Mother’s Day. It really won’t have meaning till you become one. I know because I’ve done the Hallmark cards with my signature. It just has different meaning you know?

Let me say happy Father’s Day from a place of understanding today. I’d like to say thank you to all the fathers that are role models for their kids. I’d like to say happy Father’s Day to all the Mothers who have to be a Fathers (I see you.)

I’d like to say happy Father’s Day to my mine who passed 14 years ago and give him a message. I’m good. Real good. I just wanted to thank you for being strict. Thanks for teaching me manners. Thanks for teaching me chivalry and for always respecting people no matter their age. Thanks for protecting me and for letting me find solutions. NO THANKS for our hair genes, but OVERWHELMING thanks for the love of people you taught me. Thanks for preaching that EVERYONE should be created equal and that respect is earned, not given. I’m sure if I asked anyone that knew you they would say, “Jimmy was a good man.”

I’m just striving to be that good man and raise a better one. let me leave you with some photos from my Father’s Day. I'd like to also challenge you to put down Facebook, Snapchat, turn phone off to give your kids that undivided attention they deserve even if it's just for a few minutes. So, I challenge you to think. turn off your phone.

Happy Father’s Day!
