Quit living discounted dreams. Do you know what that means? I've been reading a book and wanted to share a piece with you. It's time to dream big and quit letting others get in the way. Let me pay it forward to you.

Pay it Forward Friday: Discounted dreams.

I recently purchased a book that I came across from listening to the Author in an interview that was inspiring to me.

50 for YOUR FUTURE - lessons from down the road by Tavis Smiley.

There’s a quote on page 7 that reads,

“Your dreams should be so big that they shock people into backing up when they hear what you’re planning.” - Tavis Smiley.

Tavis goes on to say if people aren’t blown away by your thoughts and basically give you the, “that’s nice”, then your discounting your dreams. Wait, let me quote him because I love this so much,

“…you’re dreaming discounted dreams.”

What does this mean? I’ve come in to contact with several people over my lifetime that have discounted my dreams because they didn’t understand them. That doesn’t mean their wrong. This just means that they have no idea what the hell I'm talking about and rightfully so. Don’t get down on yourself like I do sometimes, but get excited. A dream is something that is yours and beyond anyone else’s imagination. Nobody is suppose to understand them. You have created them.

I remember telling my boss I was going to stay awake for 7 days without sleep for child abuse prevention month. I still see the pause and then like the, okay. It wasn’t like an exciting or scared okay, it was like, “sure…OKAY.” You know, the sarcastic one. It wasn’t till we started, received all the news coverage and he heard me slurring after 3 days that it became real to him. The second year I ran seven marathons in seven days and got the exact same reaction. My point is this. Show them. You don’t need approval for dreams. Most people in the world dream, but only a handful make their dreams a reality.

You don't need to wait till Monday or next week after the family event. Start NOW.

Here’s my challenge to you. Write down your dream and put it somewhere that you can see it everyday. My dentist told me to floss more and asked me to take this approach. Take your floss and put it somewhere you’re going to see it everyday. If you watch a lot of television, put it next to your tv. Live in your office, put it next to your computer. Make sense right? Write your dreams down, put it in a frame and stare at it everyday. Jim Carrey once wrote himself a ten million dollar story check when he was broke and gave himself three years. Carrey cashed in less than three years after filming DUMB AND DUMBER.

We just hired a guy that you will hear a lot about soon. One of his recent bosses cut him loose with and I quote,

“You don’t fit what we’re trying to do and won’t make it in this industry.”

I just hired him and he will be a star. I told him to frame that and put it on the wall. I believe in him. #motivation

Write your dreams down and don't discount them because other people don't believe in you. Dreaming is believing in yourself and that's where it all begins.

"You want something, go get it. Period." - Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness.
