For the past ten years, it's been illegal to own a Pit Bull in Payette County.

Luckily, times are changing.

Payette County code 5-5-11 banned "pit bulls," making illegal to own the breed due to what the bill described as the animals being deemed dangerous. Why the change? As part of a lawsuit settlement with a Payette man.

Said man filed a lawsuit in 2016 against Payette, claiming the ban was damaging to him since his service dog is a pit bull. The agreement was the lawsuit would be dropped if Payette dropped the code, which is exactly what happened.

Similarly, Fruitland and Payette county both pulled similar codes recently which also banned pit bull ownership. This week the city of Homedale followed suit with Payette.
