The Department of Justice is now looking into a video of a school resource officer violently throwing a young, female black student from her desk at Spring Valley High School in South Carolina.  We now know what started the incident.

According to the Associated Press, the student refused to sacrifice her phone after the teacher asked her to stop texting during math class.  That's when the teacher called resource officer Ben Fields to the classroom. When the student refused his verbal commands, he flipped her out of her desk and toppled her to the floor.

He's on administrative leave without pay.  Fields's boss called the footage "very disturbing," but a CNN analyst says the resource officer says he may have been within his rights since the student refused to follow his verbal commands.  Watch the video yourself and tell us what you think.
