Rocky Mountain to Honor 15 Year Old Softball Player Who Passed Away Suddenly
When I was scrolling through my Facebook news feed when I came across a post from one of our favorite Live for 175 cyclists that broke my heart.
It read simply "You will be missed #5 <3 I am proud to call you my friend" and beneath it was a picture of a very pretty, vibrant softball player from Rocky Mountain High School linked to a memorial page. According to the memorial page, 15-year old Kate Marshall passed away unexpectedly last Friday after being hospitalized from complications due to Strep Throat.
Kate made the varsity softball team as a freshman and also was a member of the traveling team "Boise Blast." According to KTVB, her team plans to honor her tomorrow morning by wearing purple bows decorated with the letters "P-L-K" representing the motto "Play Like Kate" and her picture.
A candlelight vigil in honor of Kate is planned for tonight at 9 p.m. on Rocky Mountain's varsity softball field. Kate's friends, family, teammates, competitors and other members of the community are invited to celebrate her life.
Neighboring softball teams from Middleton and Bishop Kelly a honored Kate with a moment of silence on the mound before their game on Saturday. Ridgevue also showed their love for Kate by writing "Kate M #5" on their arms over the weekend.
