Shoveling your driveway makes total sense. You want to be able to get to work safely.

Don't skimp on shoveling the sidewalks as well this holiday season. It could make things a lot easier on some of the Treasure Valley's hardest workers.

The Meridian Post Office expects to be delivering 19% more parcels this holiday season compared to last. That extra work means an extra risk of an injury due to workers walking on snow and ice.

Darren Holdredge has been delivering mail for 13 years. He says:

The worst thing a mailman ever wants to do is slip, trip and fall when we're out here - which it does happen.

Mail carriers say that anything helps. Shoveling snow, throwing some salt down, anything to make their traversing the cold a little easier. You're encouraged to call local police if you see any trouble spots on your sidewalks. Also, we're encouraged to park 20 feet from mailboxes to ensure delivery vehicles can get to them.

So if you're waiting on pins and needles for that holiday delivery, let's make it a little easier on Santa's elves this year.
