With thousands of Treasure Valley students heading back to school this week, there's no doubt increased security is on everyone's mind. With the string of last years school shootings, it's good to hear that West Ada Schools are adding new security features to help protect students.

West Ada Schools are currently being updated with a special security camera where staff will have the capability to see visitors that come to the office door, then make the decision on weather or not to let them into school property. Another feature, students will be required to carry lanyards they will have to swipe to gain entry into the school.

As a parent, I'm happy to see that Idaho schools are taking the safety of their students (our children) seriously. Boise is a pretty safe place, but school-shootings can happen anywhere. Though, these upgrades won't guarantee safety, it does offer a little piece of mind.
