The entertainment community was stunned this morning when TMZ broke news that former '7th Heaven' star Stephen Collins is being investigated by the NYPD after reportedly confessing to child molestation on tape. Collins admitted to exposing himself to three young victims, one of whom is related to his wife.

As a result of the investigation, EW reports that Collins has been dropped from Seth MacFarlane's 'Ted 2' starring Mark Wahlberg and Amanda Seyfried. Collins was never officially announced as part of the project, but on Oct. 4, the actor confirmed on Twitter that he had a role in the sequel about a foul-mouthed talking teddy bear.

Meanwhile, TMZ has learned more disturbing details regarding the Collins investigation, including what triggered cops to look into his past.

The site reports that a female -- who used to stay with Collins and his ex-wife in their NYC apartment when she was 10 years old -- sent an anonymous e-mail in 2000 to Collins' current wife, Faye Grant. The woman told Grant then that Collins had exposed himself to her as a child, but didn't know who he was until she recognized him on TV in the '90s.

In 2011, Grant finally reached out to the woman via e-mail after Collins had confessed during therapy to his wife about his troubled past.

The woman will reportedly cooperate in the NYPD's investigation of Collins.
