You thought last year's total solar eclipse was a treat? This phenomena hasn't happened in over 150 years!

If you watched American Horror Story: Roanoke and it scared the beejezus out of you, you may have a small panic attack if you leave for the office.  During that season, ghosts from the lost colony of Roanoke in North Carolina return and become murderous under the blood moon.  In my opinion, that season was the absolute worst one in the American Horror Story franchise, but it was enough to scare my fiance so much that he plans on staying in bed until the sun comes up on Wednesday morning.

Why? Because Wednesday morning starting around 5:51 a.m. a once in a lifetime phenomena will shine in the sky over the Treasure Valley.  Known as the Super Blue Blood Moon, the celestial event combines a couple of things. The moon is a "Super Moon" because it will be in a position where its the closest it can be to Earth.  According to Bloomberg, that happens almost once a year and the moon always looks a little bigger and brighter when it happens.

The "Blue" part comes in because, its the second full moon in January.  When more than one full moon occurs in a single month, the second one gets nickname "Blue Moon," but the color doesn't really change. The moon appears the same size and color as it normally would during a "Blue Moon."

That's not the case this time around, because that "Blue Moon" is part of a Total Lunar Eclipse.  During a total lunar eclipse, the moon makes its way through the Earth's shadow and that's where the "Blood" part of this moon comes in.  Lunar eclipses make the moon appear to be that creepy blood red color.

These three things haven't happened at the same since 1866.  So how do you experience it in the Treasure Valley? There's some good news, KIDO producer/resident Townsquare Media Boise astronomy buff, Ray Amaya tells us that we can expect clear skies on Wednesday morning.  The total lunar eclipse begins at 5:51 a.m., reaches it's peak at 6:29 a.m. and concludes at 7:07 a.m.
