Taylor Swift is currently suffering the biggest PR disaster of her career. Kim Kardashian leaked video footage last night (July 17) that appears to back up Kanye West's earlier claims that Taylor did, in fact, approve those controversial “Famous” lyrics after all. But it looks like Taylor at least had some time to prepare for the imminent fallout, because she reportedly sent Kanye’s lawyer a cease and desist letter earlier this year.

In it, the letter claims secretly recording a phone call is a felony, based on California’s two-party consent law. And according to sources at both TMZ and PEOPLE, Kanye’s conversation with Taylor was taped in a Los Angeles-area studio.

The cease and desist, which Taylor’s attorney reportedly sent out back in February, goes on to insist Kanye and his team destroy the recordings and then provide adequate proof the tapes are gone.

“Demand is hereby made that you immediately destroy all such recordings, provide us of assurance that this has been done, and also assurance that these recordings have not been previously disseminated,” it says, via TMZ.

Taylor may have a case against Kim and Kanye, should she choose to pursue one, based on the California Penal Code 632. But public opinion seems have shifted against Taylor, so it remains unclear as to whether she'll take any further legal action.

The video footage is, admittedly, pretty damning.

In the recording, Taylor says at one point, "And you know, if people ask me about it I think it would be great for me to be like, ‘Look, he called me and told me the line before it came out. Like, jokes on you guys, We’re fine.’"

She continues, saying, "You guys want to call this a feud; you want to call this throwing shade but, you know, right after the song comes out I’m going to be on a Grammy red carpet and they’re going to ask me about it and I’ll be like, ‘He called me.’"

While each clip Kim posted is chopped up and spaced apart -- due to the 10-second nature of Snapchat -- the recording does back up what the reality star asserted in her GQ cover story.

"It was funny because [on the call with Kanye, Taylor] said, ‘When I get on the Grammy red carpet, all the media is going to think that I’m so against this, and I’ll just laugh and say, ‘The joke’s on you, guys. I was in on it the whole time,’" Kim said. "And I’m like, wait, but [in] your Grammy speech, you completely dissed my husband just to play the victim again.”
