As I headed into the office this morning, I was thinking #tbt and fall while sipping on my Pumpkin Spice Chai.  For some reason I remembered this RIDICULOUS lie my parents told me about what happened to my Halloween pumpkin when I was about six years old...

My mom took my sister and I to the pumpkin farm that our school frequently visited for field trips.  Our family was never big on carving jack-o-lanterns (in fact I never carved my own until I was a sophomore in college) so the next best thing was getting one of those pumpkins that had a funny face painted on it.  I picked one out with huge googly looking eyes and affectionately named him "Pumpky."

I loved having Pumpky chilling out on the dresser in my bedroom while I got ready for school every day.  That was until the day I came home and realized my room started to smell a little funny. I told my parents and almost immediately my dad knew what it was.  He turned Pumpky around to see that my best fall friend had started to rot.  I burst into tears when I found out that meant we had to throw him away.

Now, I give my parents credit for thinking quick on their feet.  They told me instead of throwing him away they would take him to our local grocery store and have them turn him into pumpkin pie.  For whatever reason my six year old brain deemed this acceptable.  When they brought home a pumpkin pie a few days later I seemed to accept that my pumpkin bestie was now in a better place.

What's sad?  I actually BELIEVED that this was true until I was old enough to drive and started doing grocery shopping on my own!  After spending enough time at that grocery store in the fall I realized that NO ONE was bringing in pumpkins to have them turned into pumpkin pies.  The pies were shipped from a pie company or made with pumpkin puree in the store's bakery!

I can't believe that my parents lied to me! They threw away Pumpky and bought me some random pumpkin pie.  And the saddest part?  I believed them for the better part of 10 years.  ::FACE PALM::

What ridiculous lie did your parents tell you growing up that you believed for the longest time?!
