The "100 deadliest days" has been deadlier than ever, and it's only been 62 days.

According to the Idaho Transportation Department, there have coincidentally been 62 traffic fatalities in Idaho since Memorial Day. This time last year during the "100 deadliest days," there were a total of 60 deaths. Bill Kotowski from the ITD explains:

Over the last few years, the number of deaths on our roads during the summer months have been trending upward.

ITD have put out extra patrols starting last week to help curb fatal accidents in Idaho, which are primarily caused by aggressive driving, distracted driving, and impaired driving.

Making matters worse is August 21's total solar eclipse, which will bring tens of thousands of visitors to Idaho to witness the once in a lifetime event. This will further congest our roads which puts both motorists and pedestrians at a greater risk of an accident.

Kotowski is asking Idaho drivers to not drive distracted, and wear your seat belt:

Our goal is to see zero fatalities on Idaho roads. We can all change small behaviors behind the wheel ... to make that goal a reality.
