Today is National Hire a Veteran Day
There are so many “themed” days that get lost on our daily calendars. Let me highlight today’s “National Hire a Veteran Day” with some great resources to hire our previous members that served our country including access to hiring.
I was fortunate enough to serve in the United States Navy and loved every moment. The military helped me grow as an individual, provided me a sense of independence, and allowed me to experience different cultures while exploring the world. Once I left the Navy, the benefits from my G.I. bill allowed me to attend college, intern at a local radio station, and most recently, purchase my first home with the VA home loan. There are many aspects of my life I couldn’t have experienced if it were not for my time serving the American people with the United States Navy.
Today is National Hire a Veteran Day. Leaving the military can be a very scary place for a veteran. Imagine the job you have right now for say 10 years and then being let go with the option to move across the country with no job, “Good luck and thanks for serving!” The Veteran’s services do what they can to assist, but it’s up to our employers to actually hire the men and women who served us with honor.
I’m speaking from experience when I say it’s not easy to serve under the restrictions of the government. You can be called upon at any moment to go wherever they want you to go. When you enlist – the government owns you.
I remember seeing highly decorated enlisted members discharged and watching them as they had no idea what to do next or where to go. Imagine having your day planned out for the last 12 years and tomorrow you have nothing. It’s important we reach out and find one of our loyal members and give them the opportunity. The military is HIGHLY trained and willing to sacrifice. Give your business an opportunity by hiring a veteran today.
You can join the virtual career fair and interested companies can also conduct live interviews online. You can register at targetedjobfairs.com, hireourheroes.org, and make sure to use the #hireaveteranday when posting. This day was created to continue an awareness campaign to assist our veterans when they’re discharged.
