Traffic-related deaths are up 9% annually from a year ago, according to the National Safety Council.

Just this year alone, over 19,000 people were killed in traffic accidents from January to June. An 18% increase from 2015.

Why? Complacency, says National Safety Council's CEO:

Americans should demand change to prioritize safety actions and protect ourselves from one of the leading causes of preventable death.

Something to note, the average miles driven has also gone up 3.3% since 2015, which may be a slight indicator of the increase in accidents.
