Idaho gas prices are on the rise again, and after a jump in prices last week, Idaho is once again home to some of the highest gas prices in the country and it doesn't look to easing any time soon.

Last week, Idaho gas prices rose by 16 cents to an average of $2.72 per gallon.  I got back from vacation on Monday the 19th and noticed as I passed Fred Meyer on Chinden as I do every morning on my way to work that gas was $2.46 per gallon, now just a week later, that same Fred Meyer has gas for $2.76.....damn it, why didn't I fill up last week?

According to a press release from AAA Idaho, that's the highest increase in the U.S. and it makes Idaho the 10th highest for average gas prices in the country.

AAA said, "Utah saw a 14-cent price increase last week, while Oregon and Washington prices each jumped by 9 cents per gallon.

Why is it rising so fast? According to experts, there are a couple reasons...refineries are shut down right now for spring maintenance, causing a short term hike in prices, Saudi Arabia is also raising prices and Idaho has more people, thus more cars requiring more gas to be purchased and used in the Treasure Valley than ever before.
Idaho’s average of $2.72 per gallon is 11 cents higher than the national average. It’s also 24 cents higher than the average cost this time last year. And  if your wondering if prices will drop ahead of summer vacation travel, AAA says don't count on it……prices at the pump show no signs of slowing down heading into the summer and will probably continue to rise though the rest of the year.

Now, while prices are at an average of $2.72 per gallon here in Idaho, I checked on about a half dozen Boise area gas station and prices for all of those were about $3.84 a gallon making the prices in Boise and the Treasure Valley higher than most the rest of the state.

According to Gas Buddy, the lowest prices to be found right now are at Costco at $2.69 per gallon.
