We'd like to think otherwise, but we live in a world where mass shootings are a reality. While we hope this information will never have to be used, it's a good refresher on how to possibly save the lives of yourself and others.

For this writer, this entry is in no way trying to "cash in" on the absolute abysmal situation in Las Vegas. It is, however, a stark reminder that we should all be aware of what to do in an emergency situation. Being more alert of your surroundings, and knowing how to choose your actions in a time of panic could quite literally save your life.

I'm no pro when it comes to safety or emergency situations, so we turn to Lifehacker who compiled a fantastic list of things to keep in mind should you ever find yourself in a similar situation to that in Las Vegas. The entire entry can be found here, but a few of the larger things to note include:

  • Follow your natural "flight or fight" response
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Get safe first, then contact authorities

They also have guidelines on what to do if you're armed, and how to handle yourself after the situation has dissipated.

It goes without saying that we adore living in Boise, where we feel safe, and we know friendly neighbors are always willing to lend a hand in a time of crisis. Be a little more prepared can make that helping hand even more helpful.
