Ada County Responsible for Most DUI Arrests over Christmas

Sounds as if quite a few people might need to start their year with a pretty basic resolution.

DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE! JUST DON'T DO IT!

The Idaho Press-Tribune reported between this past Friday evening and Tuesday night, including (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) police in the Treasure Valley arrested more than 50 people on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The arrests come during a statewide crackdown on impaired driving, which began Dec. 13. Multiple agencies have partnered to promote the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, including the National Highway Traffic Safety Association and the Idaho Office of Highway Safety, as well as multiple local police departments, such as the Meridian Police Department.

At least 51 people were arrested by city, county and state police agencies during those four days. The majority of those arrests occurred in Ada County, with the Meridian and Boise police departments each arresting 15 people. Nampa police officers arrested 11 people, and Caldwell police made four arrests. Ada County Sheriff’s deputies also arrested two people on suspicion of drunk driving during that time.

 Last year’s campaign resulted in the arrest of 292 impaired drivers across the state, according to a release from the Meridian Police Department. The campaign is scheduled to last through Jan. 3 so we'll have to see if Idahoan drivers have chosen to clean up their act this year.
Spirits are generally high this time of year, and even if you're having a hard time, this is the time of year that people generally try to pull it together.
