A Boise company with over 60 employees will start offering their staff paid bereavement if one of their fur children passes. Do you think more companies should offer this perk in a time of crisis?

According to the Idaho Statesman, that company is Pets Best Insurance and they'll be offering employees one day of pet bereavement each year should they need it. The pet bereavement day is an addition to what each member of the team is offered in PTO benefits.

The Pets Best president tells the Statesman that the bereavement day won't make the pain of losing a beloved part of the family easier, but feels it's necessary for their employees to have a least a few extra hours to honor their pet.

After digging around on the intrawebs, most companies (like Pets Best) offering pet bereavement are pet insurance companies with the exception of Mars, Incorporated (the company that makes M&Ms and other chocolatey goodness.)

My cat is a total jerk who consistently does things like electrocutes himself by chewing through extension cords, breaks my favorite coffee mug in order to make noise and wake me up to feed his highness and well...you get the picture.  But I'll admit if I woke up one morning to find the little brat had passed away while I was asleep, I doubt I'd be able to function and do my show just a few hours later. That might be because I'm a childless woman in my late 20s and Dakota is the only thing I'm sure will be waiting for me when I come home every night. I think totally think pet bereavement is a great idea!
