In what was nothing short of a 'shocking' report--we are now learning that in about 24-hours, Idaho experience nearly 3,000 individual lightning strikes over the gem state.

Each summer in the Treasure Valley, we know exactly what to expect. Things start off slow, and then we wake up one day to scorching heat. That heat will stick around for a few days, and then things will cool off a bit. When they cool off, we get a thunderstorm and then said thunderstorm takes over social media for 24-hours, at least.

Predictable.

Following a storm, which many called 'weak' on Wednesday, July 25th, we are now learning from the National Weather Service in Boise, Idaho, that over 2,800 lightning strikes took place above the Gem State. If you didn't see too many over the Treasure Valley, that's because most of them were in other areas. Some reported seeing lightning over Boise, however.

The strikes, unfortunately, started some fires.

The United States Fire Service is now reporting that approximately 15 new fires have been detected in Idaho with more expected. That isn't good for our forests or our air!

Of the 15 new fires that were started, officials are quickly reporting that three are already contained.

It's important for Idahoans to remember that there are strict fire restrictions in place right now and with these hot, dry, and windy conditions, it is always safest to just NOT burn anything so that our fire fighters can focus on major fires elsewhere that are not made by human ignorance or error.
