There’s just no way around it, and when you see the clever signs and bumper stickers saying things like, “no vacancy,” or, “don’t California my Idaho,” it makes it pretty obvious that Idahoans aren’t exactly on board with the sudden influx of new people from other states.

Why do people keep moving here?

People think Idaho is one of the cheapest states to buy a house, and I think that's one reason so many people continue to move here. Well, that may have been true at one point, but it's not true anymore! Considering the rest of the country, there are actually A LOT of other places to live where it's much cheaper to buy a house.

There's a recent article from Rocket Mortgage that shares the cheapest states to buy a home, and according to their data, it looks like Idaho hasn't been in the top 20 since at least before 2021. So, for a couple of years now, there have been other, way more affordable places to buy a home.

In the year 2022, Rocket Mortgage said Tennessee was the cheapest state to buy a house in, and Oregon was the most expensive state to buy a house in, with the average house price being $514,568.
