The Lagoon Amusement Park in Utah has been making exciting changes over the last few years. They’ve expanded the size of the park with new rides and additional parking spaces.

They have also retired or moved a few classic rides from the park to make room for new ones. The most recent removal was Jet Star 2 at the end of the 2025 season. Notable additions over the last few years are the Nutcracker and the three rides at The District. Primordial was nearly half a decade in the making, and Cannibal, in my opinion, has been the most exhilarating addition to the park.

The New Coaster at Lagoon in Utah Will Be a Hot Racer Called J3 Grand Prix

That may change in 2027 when the new coaster, J3 Grand Prix, is set to open. J3 is unlike any other roller coaster at Lagoon or in the United States. It’s a type of coaster called a Hot Racer; it takes up a smaller footprint while allowing for tight turns, and it looks amazing.

When the park posted banners last year for the ride, I thought it was going to be a race car ride - more like go-karts - but this is a legit roller coaster.

The announcement, complete with a video preview, was revealed at the Hackenslash Stage on October 3rd. Frightmares is happening right now at Lagoon, and the Hackenslash Stage is one of the coolest performance stages in the park.

Will J3 Grand Prix be a good replacement for Jet Star 2, and will it compare in excitement to Primordial, Cannibal, and Wicked? I guess we’ll find out in 2027.

Lagoon also removed the zoo animals in 2025, opened The District with three new rides in 2025, unveiled The Nutcracker in 2026, and opened the for business.

While we wait, you can enter to win free passes to Frightmares 2026. Contest ends on October 18, 2026.
