Usually, members of the same political party tend to agree on most things, right? Well, that's certainly not the case in Idaho this week, where Republicans can't seem to reach a middle ground when it comes to students' writing habits.

Idaho Republicans are at a stand-still when it comes to whether or not Idaho students should be forced to learn how to read and write in cursive.

We're not making this up. This is what's on lawmakers' desks this week. Looks like the price of eggs will have to wait.

Anyway, Senate Bill 1044 would declare an "emergency" and require Idaho schools to adapt cursive writing by this coming school year. Why? Republican senator Tammy Nichols says:

It's not just about handwriting, there's so much more involved. Cursive handwriting has shown that it helps kids with reading, it helps them in memorization, in spelling, in language learning and in abstract and complex thought processes.

Her fellow Republican senator, Kevin Cook, didn't seem to agree one bit:

So we're moving to a different century where Latin is not required, cursive is not required.

Um, do they not use Roman Numerals for the Super Bowl every year? Or are we crazy?

What do you think? Should students here in Idaho be forced to be proficient in cursive? Is that still something that's important toward learning in 2025? You tell us.
