Gordmans, Radio Shack, Family Christian Stores...the list of national chains closing across the Treasure Valley is growing. I'm sad that one of my favorite stores could be next!

According to the USA Today, Payless ShoeSource is considering filing bankruptcy and 400-500.  Payless has grown into one of the largest shoe retailers in the world with 4,000 locations spread across 30 countries.  However, like other national chains, Payless has been losing ground to online options like Zappos and Amazon.

At this time, Payless hasn't made a public comment on reports of their bankruptcy plans.  Right now Payless has locations in Boise at Boise Townsquare and Westpark Towne Plaza.  They've also got a location in Meridian and Caldwell.  At this time, it's unclear if any of the Treasure Valley locations could be affected.

I'll be bummed to see Payless close.  I'm wicked hard on my shoes, so I don't buy a lot of name brand, expensive designer brands.  I can usually find something cute and comfortable at Payless that I don't mind wrecking downtown at China Blue or Roddy's. Plus, I'm too cheap to pay for real Chucks, so I love getting the ones Payless has that look almost exactly the same at less than half the price.

If the stores do close, they'll be joining Macy's (Nampa Gateway,) Gordman's (all Treasure Valley locations,) Wetseal (Boise Townesquare Mall) and Radio Shack (Boise and Caldwell) as national chains leaving behind empty storefronts.

There's also rumors that GameStop might be doing something similar in the coming months.
