This new storm has put the Idaho Transportation Department on alert and we now have multiple Idaho highways shut down because of dangerous conditions.  One of those highways has already reported an avalanche and both have heavy snow falling with fierce winds that are blowing snow all over causing whiteout conditions.

KTVB reports that one of the highways ITD has shut down is US Highway 95.  They've shut down a 25 mile stretch from Council to New Meadows (mileposts 136-161).

ITD has shut down two different areas on State Highway 21 and this where an avalanche has been reported.  The first closure is between Grandjean Road and Banner Creek Summit, about 35 miles south of Stanley. This is at milepost 94 to milepost 105 and avalanche danger has been listed as the reason for the closure.

The second closure is from about 7 miles north of Idaho City to the Banks-Lowman Road.  Again, there is avalanche danger here along with high winds causing snow blowing, drifts, and whiteout conditions.

ITD has every plow they have access to working overtime but they can't keep up with the accumulating snow.  Please stay clear of these areas if possible.  This is one of those days where it's probably better to lock yourself in, put on a hot cup of soup, and watch a movie.
