Boise Area Credit Union Scams On The Rise

With the major increase in technology use, for everything, it seems that the risk for being scammed has only grown.

Fortunately, we can basically do everything from our phones these days.

Unfortunately, this has meant more and more ways for people online to scam us, steal our information, and put us in a loss.

It was only a matter of days ago that we warned you of a rent scam making the rounds in the Treasure Valley: 

Now, our banks and local credit unions are tasked with making sure that you aren't falling for scams that may be hitting your phones, emails, or both. 

Just this afternoon, we received emails of our own that said something was wrong or had been changed with our accounts at Idaho Central Credit Union. While we made no changes to our accounts-- seeing that our accounts had been frozen came as a little bit of a shock.

Typically, you're able to look at the email address of a spam account and identify if it is the real deal or not. What had totally thrown us off was the fact that the email address sending us questionable messages was ACTUALLY appearing to be from "ICCU.com".

As you can tell from the photos, there were a few typos that give the scams away--but at first glace, it seems totally real.

We spoke with Idaho Central Credit Union and they shared that these scams are rampant right now in the Treasure Valley. One important indicator told them that our emails were scams-- without even seeing them: the email was addressed to "Member" and not our name.
