The Boise Farmer's Market is back this weekend, and everyone's invited. The weather SHOULD be sunny and in the mid to upper 60's making for perfect outdoor shopping. The BFM opens this Saturday, at 9 a.m. and runs through 1 p.m. Find the market at the corner 10th and Grove or just look for the hundreds of Idahoans roaming from booth to booth.

Why a Farmer's Market? I'm no expert. I grew up in the city, but I can claim my country fame to living in Texas. That said, I know nothing about farming. My wife's family, on the other hand, knows all about it and have done a great job of educating me. Farmer's markets have the best vegetables, meats, grains, and grown locally in the Treasure Valley.

Every farmer will ask you to support local farmers. This is OUR front line to fresh food that is grown locally in Idaho. I'm not sure if I'm just more conscious, but I would much rather buy fruits, vegetables, and meat from my neighbor. I want to know exactly where it's coming from and that my eggs aren't being infested with a ton of bad stuff. Tell me you've watched the Food Inc. Watch it and say whether that changes how you think about food.

I've lived in Boise for about ten years, and I try to do the best I can at buying local. The next time you drive down the street and see a little vegetable stand, stop to see what's up. You would be surprised how much BETTER the food is, and some was probably just picked.

The Farmer's Market is the way to go and see what our local farmers are bringing to our kitchen tables. The Saturday event is also an excellent way to meet people and see the new products that some of the vendors will have on site.

Fresh or freezer? Check out this homemade apple pie. Whoa!

I grabbed this from healthylittlebit.com so you can see the difference between local and conventional eggs.
