A ruling on Police Accountability was released this afternoon surrounding a case from last summer.

You may recall the incident that took place on June 23rd of 2023--an officer involved shooting downtown Boise rocked the city as just minutes after bars had closed and hundreds of citizens were in the streets and headed home for the night.

Shots rang out just yards from one of downtown Boise's busiest intersections and it ended in a fatality.

This afternoon, along with accountability findings, the following video was released.

The incident that took place in downtown Boise was tragic. 

Prosecutors from Gooding County reviewed all evidence in this case and determined that the Idaho officer who shot the fleeing suspect was acing within the bounds of Idaho law. The decision was based around the officer acting in self-defense and in  defense of the public.

The report also offered suggestions on how this could have been handled differently--which included critiques of tactical decisions made and cited 'lack of operational oversight'.
