It sounds impossible, but to two Washington lawmakers, it's very much a possibility.

Two state representatives in Washington State want eastern Washington to break off into its own state. The proposed name: Liberty.

Before we move on, yes this could actually happen. Republican Representatives Matt Shea and Bob McCaslin have filed the bill because they feel that eastern and western Washington are distancing themselves from each other more each year.

Basically, they say the rapid urbanization of the Seattle area isn't like the rest of the state, so they want to split it in half. Because nothing says America like "Hey, you're different. Stay away from us!"

That was sarcasm. Just to be clear.

So, how would it actually happen? The Washington House and Senate would have to approve the movement followed by the U.S. Congress. Possible? Yes. Likely? Not so much.
