Call it 'crappy' or just a total 'hot mess' -- that fire that was started a week ago near Lucky Peak now has an identified cause.

According to Idaho Fish and Game--a hiker took a poo, wiped, and lit the toilet paper on fire. Instead of packing out their waste--that fire ended up burning 750 acres of wildlife habitat.

It was an extremely poor decision.

Idaho Fish and Game released the follow statement after announcing the cause of the fire:

Fish and Game is urging all recreationists, especially those utilizing its wildlife management areas, to be responsible about where they go, both literally and figuratively. The whole concept behind establishing and managing wildlife management areas is to provide important habitat for Idaho’s wildlife. A lot of effort goes in to managing these lands for migrating wildlife, native plants, and quality winter range.

While one could make plenty of jokes about the cause of the fire--there's nothing funny about the reality of it all. The cost to extinguish the fire on the ground and from the air is not cheap. Perhaps even worse? The area that burned is important land for wildlife each winter.

According to officials, fire like these can diminish the wildlife qualities necessary for a total of twenty to thirty years. That isn't good!

It's a cliche reminder--but don't forget it. When you're out hiking, camping, or enjoying the Idaho outdoors, pack out what you pack in!
