The West Valley Humane Society is asking for your help to save the life of a dog who was shot in the face with a shotgun. The 1-year-old Belgian Malinois mix arrived at the shelter in critical condition. The doctor immediately began treating Gauge for a number of life-threatening conditions.

The white specs on the photo above are shotgun pellets. The young pup was shot in the face with a shotgun. The doctors removed as many of the shotgun pellets as possible cleaned his wounds, and removed his eye due to the damage.

The medical staff also had to remove a band around Gauge's scrotum because someone tried to neuter him. The West Valley described the procedure in a Facebook post.   "We had to perform a scrotal ablation quickly to remove the painful band, remove the necrotic tissue of his scrotum, and locate the other testicle buried in the inguinal region of his leg."

The staff believes their excellent work will lead to a fantastic life for Gauge. They say he is on the road to getting better day by day and will be available for adoption soon. "This sweet boy is not letting his rough start slow him down. He is ready to make his way into a new home and is on the path to a better life! Despite the excruciating amount of pain and suffering this poor boy went through, he was a trooper through it all. He was very happy to be in the loving hands of our shelter, with people who cared about and for him."

The cost of saving lives like Gauge's is very expensive. Without the good works of the shelter, he wouldn't have lived very long after being shot. The West Valley Humane Society has started a fundraiser on GoFundMe to help pay for Gauge's life-saving treatment. You can donate here.

We have included the rest of the photos below to show how horrendous his injuries were before treatment. We warn you; they are very graphic. Please consider helping the West Valley Humane Society by donating or volunteering.

Warning Graphic Photos

Thanks to the great work of the West Valley Humane Society, Gauge will be able to find his forever happy home. God Bless!
