I compulsively check the Idaho Steelhead's event page to find out when this event is coming every year and it always seems to sneak up on me!

Back in college we had to take a certain number of gym glasses to graduate.  One had to be a swimming course (yes, you had to pass swimming to graduate with a bachelor's degree from my school) and the other two were totally up to you.  When I saw ice skating on the schedule, I thought to myself "Ok, it's a 1.5 hour class two times a week and I like skating.  They'll probably just have us do laps around the rink since it's a gym class and you get a great workout doing that." Wrong. I was so wrong.  It turned out it was a figure skating class for women and open play hockey for men. By the end of the semester I could (although not very well) successfully perform three of the ugliest figure skating jumps you've ever seen. 6 years later, I can't do the jumps anymore but I do still have the skates I bought during that class! And this weekend I get to put them to good use!

The Idaho Steelheads and Century Link Arena are hosting their annual free skate day this Sunday, March 12th from 1-3 p.m.  In addition to getting to take a spin around the rink with your friends totally free, you'll also have the opportunity to take photos with Blue (the Steelhead's mascot,) Steelheads players and coaching staff. The future stars of the NHL are also more than willing to give fans autographs during this one-on-one opportunity!

BTW, if you've got a can of corn or soup or anything that your family isn't planning on eating, bring it to Free Skate Day with you.  A canned food donation is good for two tickets to the Steelies game against the Rapid City Rush on March 15th!

There are a limited amount of skates available, so if you have your own, it's best to bring them!
