Great! Another Reason For People To Move to Boise
As much as we love Boise and the Treasure Valley we don't love that the world has discovered the amazing quality of life that we enjoy. I agree that in the last 5 years the cost of housing has gone through the roof and there is very little "quality of life" in the fact that the median price for a home in Ada county has gone from $245k to $525k. However if you can look past that huge hurdle Boise and the Treasure Valley are great places to call home. The crime rate is relatively low, the outdoor activities from biking to hiking to fishing and hunting are hard to beat. The unemployment rate is low and something that surprised me is the very low cost of electricity.
Years ago when I moved here from Phoenix, Arizona my first electricity bill came in the mail and I couldn't believe what I was looking at. The bill was only $82 for the month of July. By Comparison my last bill in Arizona had been $278. Apparently out of towners have yet another reason to move to Boise as a new report from commodity says that Boise city has the third lowest electric bills out of all midsize U.S. Metros. The median electricity bill is $90 per month, to put it into perspective here are the top 5 Large Metros with the highest electric bills from the study.
5. Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX Median monthly electricity costs: $170
4. Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, FL Median monthly electricity costs: $180
3. Jacksonville, FL Median monthly electricity costs: $180
2. Memphis, TN-MS-AR Median monthly electricity costs: $200
1. Birmingham-Hoover, AL Median monthly electricity costs: $200
As much as I want to celebrate the only thing that comes to mind is... Great!... Another reason for people to move to Boise.
